Frequently Asked Questions

Custom Orders

What is the difference between a custom order and a pre-order?

A custom order is a bespoke creation using a human or synthetic hair wig. These orders receive a consultation with the seller prior to ordering.

Pre-orders are orders for models we do regularly carry in stock.

How do I pay for a custom wig orders?

A deposit equal to 50% of the wig's cost is due at the time of ordering. Collections by Kimberly must receive this payment before the order is passed on to production.

Once the order has been submitted, no further changes can be made. You will receive a confirmation of your order.

When will I receive my custom or pre-ordered wig?

Custom and pre-ordered wigs have a  delivery time of 4-12 weeks. Factors that impact delivery time are:

  • if the customized wig requires a pre-order
  • if the pre-order wig requires any customizations
  • length and density of wigs being customized
  • color processes
  •  Orders will only be shipped after full payment (100%) has been received.

Can I return or exchange my custom or pre-ordered wig?

  • Custom/pre-orders are non-refundable.
  • No returns or exchanges are accepted for custom orders.
  • Pre-orders can be exchanged under some circumstances
  • Stock products with customized color or cut are NOT eligible for a return. We will however, do our very best to make it right by the customer and will do our best to work with you on color and style.

Human Hair Wigs

How do I know what color to order?

When you are in doubt about how to chose a color, buy a lighter piece. It is always better to add lowlights than to bleach human hair. Due to the process of how the hair is collected and processed, it's impossible to know if it will lift to the lightest level you are looking to achieve. We do our best to represent the true color of pieces in all photos. However, we cannot guarantee the color on your screen or with your resolution is the same as the color of the piece.

Do I need to use glue or tape with these Wigs?

You do not need to use glue or tape. These are glue-less human hair wigs. However, you CAN. If you are going to do strenuous activities that involve major movement with your wig, you could do it as an extra precausion (i.e., riding on a roller coaster or a boat). If you are wearing daily, doing normal activities does, there is no need for glue or adhesive double-sided tape. It's also a preference to use a wig cap and or wig grip. Some find both comfortable as others may wear their piece without anything at all. It.s a personal choice.

What type of Human Hair is used?

Premium Remi human hair is used for all our human hair wigs and toppers. Remi hair means that the hairs all grow in the same direction and are still completely intact. It is 100% human hair. Remi hair is virgin hair that has been colored or treated in some way. Remi hair still maintains it's cuticle. With the darker colors, virgin hair is often used, which is hair that has not been color treated or processed. We currently source European, Brazilian and coming soon Slavic quality hair.

What is the difference between European, Brazilian, and Slavic hair textures?

European hair does not necessarily mean the hair comes from Europe, as few Europeans actually harvest and sell their own hair. European hair means it comes from a country with an Anglo or European descendant. The texture of the hair is very fine and is silky straight.

Brazilian hair is currently one of the the most sought-after textures on the market. This hair type is glamorous and soft to the touch. Brazilian hair does not frizz as easily as other types because of it's density. If you want a full and bouncy effect, Brazilian hair gives that.

Slavic hair is soft, thin, shiny, and lightweight . The colors it generally comes in are light blonde to medium brown. This hair is extremely hard to source and is therefore the most expensive hair on the market.

How long will my human hair wig or topper last?

It's impossible to determine the true life of any piece due to the differences in each person's life style choices, i.e., maintenance, care and average wear. Typically, premium human hair wigs can last up to a year or two. It helps to have more than one wig, alternating them, especially if wearing daily. Maintenance of your wig will help it to last longer as well. After wearing for several months (6-12), getting a "refresher" on the color and a trim can be helpful to make them feel like they are "New" again.

How do I care for my new human hair wig?

Keep in mind your new human hair piece needs to be treated and cared for to maintain longevity. This means it needs to be kept on a mannequin, portable wig stand (Amazon) or safe storage place (brushed and placed in the silk bag it came in). You should plan to shampoo and condition between 6-8 weeks depending on wear. You can style with heat tools. Be sure to use a heat protectant. As mentioned, you will want to give your wig a "refresher" after 6-12 months to get the desired brightness/tone back. Just as your natural hair would fade after numerous washes and over time depending on wear.

Why do I see color in the water when I wash my human hair wig?

This is normal with any colored piece, and the color will not completely wash out.

General Questions

Do you offer Medical caps for people with Cancer and/or Alopecia Totalis?

Yes, you can find more information on medical wigs on the Collections by Kimberly website.

What is hair density?

The standard density of a lace top wig is 130%-140%. The lowest density of the lace top wig we offer is 125%. That would be a custom order. The standard density of a silk top wig is 140%, lower and higher density is possible but has to be custom ordered.

What is silk base topper?

Silk base toppers offer a realistic imitation of the scalp and ensures the most undetectable result. The better you blend and style it with your bio-hair, the more undetectable it will look. Silk toppers are individually bound to mimic natural hair growth. They are sewn on an extra layer, which is a cloth like fabric ("silk") that makes the scalp and hair part look very realistic.

How do I cut the lace on wigs and toppers?

Check my YouTube channel for a video tutorial on lace cutting. Just go slow if it is your first time cutting off the lace on your wig. Better to have room to cut more than cut too much as once. We suggest leaving at least 1/4 of an inch and not cut a straight line across. Better to use the "less is more" motto here.
